The course covers antennas and radiowave propagation in the frequeny range above about 100 MHz . The antenna part covers general theory, wire (monopole, dipole), apertures (horn, reflector), and micro-strip (phased array). The propagation parts includes free space loss, reflection, diffraction, effects of atmospheric gases, precipitation (rain, snow), and abnormal air mixtures (inversion layers), system dimensioning, and radio channel models. The course emphasizes actual radio systems, such as mobiele communication, broadband wireless access, wireless local access networks, point to point links, sensor networks, and radar.
Enable the student to do basic calculations for actual radio systems: dimensioning and interference. The student will be able to take account for the effects terrain, buildings, and varying atmospheric and climatic conditions.
